MODERN & ANCIENT COURSES AND WORKSHOPS

MODERN CARBONATE COURSE - BELIZE, CENTRAL AMERICA
April 27 - May 4, 2008

This course has been run on 17 previous occasions, combining “wet” lectures in the field, a guided overflight and dry land lectures to illustrate the geological evolution of Devonian reservoir units of Western Canada.  Isolate reef and barrier zonation, siliciclastic shoreline to carbonate reef transition and outlying atolls are examined, emphasizing spatial variability and resulting reservoir parameters.  Resulting exploration play types are highlighted.

MODERN CARBONATES COURSE - FLORIDA / BAHAMAS
By Request

This course has been run on more than 16 previous occasions, combining “wet” lectures in the field, a guided overflight and dry land lectures to illustrate the geological evolution of Devonian and Mississippian reservoir units of Western Canada.  Exposure to barrier and patch reef systems, mobile (oolite) sand shoals, lagoonal muds and tidal flat settings are examined, emphasizing spatial variability and resulting reservoir parameters.  Resulting exploration play types are highlighted.

MODERN CARBONATES COURSE - BAHAMAS
By Request

This course focuses specifically on providing analogues to Mississippian producing units in the Western Canadian Sedimentary basin. Field stops illustrate depositional facies associations and provide modern examples of Mississippian reservoir developments. Examination of Pleistocene outcrop sections provides a means of reviewing subsequent diagenesis.

ANCIENT CARBONATE COURSE - CALGARY, CANADA
Nov 17 - 21, 2008

Run on more than 40 previous occasions, this 5 day course will benefit explorationists who are charged with visualizing reservoir heterogeneity and building predictive models to find and exploit reservoirs in carbonate rocks.  Instructors Frank Stoakes and Jack Wendte illustrate the geological evolution of Devonian and Mississippian reservoir units of Western Canada.  Lectures, case histories and core examination will familiarize delegates with identification and interpretation of depositional facies.  Emphasis is on geometry, distribution and development of reservoir quality porosity in carbonates.  The course is taught at the AEUB Core Research Centre.

ONE DAY CORE WORKSHOPS
AEUB CORE RESEARCH CENTRE

Utilizing a combination of lectures and core examination these workshops are intended to provide an overview of the stratigraphic architecture, depositional facies and diagenesis of the unit. Accompanying template cross sections and poster boards will address the key criteria governing individual exploration fairways and play-types.
