Overview
Stone
Code Geoware - Corescription is a digital database library of SCG
Ltd. core descriptions.
The database is the result of over 20 years of SCG geological consulting
and project work within the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin. Most
of the core descriptions within this database are part of larger regional,
field and pool studies that incorporated core description information into
mapping and cross sections, and resulted in a more detailed interpretation
of various geological plays.
The library consists of more than 9,800 descriptions, representing more than 11,000 described cored intervals, from cores stored at the AEUB Core Research Facility in Calgary, the BC Core Storage Facility in Charlie Lake, and the Saskatchewan Core Storage Facility in Regina. SCG releases approximately 250 new core descriptions to this data base on an annual basis. Each carbonate description usually includes a detailed description of sedimentary structures, diagenesis, fauna, porosity, lithology/rock texture, matrix, contacts, bedding types, colour and stratigraphic picks. Each clastic description usually includes a detailed description of facies rock type, grain size, composition, matrix composition, sedimentary structures, colour, porosity and stratigraphic picks. Descriptions are correlated to field scale logs and in many cases include depth adjusted porosity plots within the log signature. Also included with many descriptions are links to stratigraphic or facies models related to a particular stratigraphic interval. A Windows based information retrieval system provides the linkage to the database of scanned images and provides for a wide variety of database search capabilities. Specific wells can be easily retrieved using custom built data filters that allow for searches by Township/Range, NTS (within BC), cored formation, and by the SCG study affiliated with the description. Combined survey system and cored formation searches are also possible. In addition, each data field on the screen is searchable and sortable. Finally the system incorporates an online help system that includes numerous screen snap shots showing the step-by-step procedure to complete searches. The digital library consists of approximately 1 Gigabyte of scanned images. The data is distributed on 2 CDs for standalone operation and can also be copied to a network server for a network license. Distribution by compact disk will allow for maximum portability between the office, the field and the various core storage facilities. It
is anticipated that this library will provide the user with detailed core
descriptions at a fraction of the cost associated with the personal logging
of cores. It will be an invaluable compliment and guide to ongoing
facies and reservoir quality interpretations, provide useful background
information for additional core logging and selection, and provide comparative
data for wellsite packages.
Database Statistics: More than 9,800 descriptions representing more than 11,000 cored intervals: Statistics by Province: Approximately 250 new core descriptions added each year. Pricing: The system is available based on a one, two or three year data lease subscription. The cost includes an annual update of all new SCG described cores available for release at the time of update. The cost of additional licenses declines by 50% per license up to the 4th license, and the purchase of the 5th license constitutes a site and/or network licensing. The
cost per core description equates to less than $1.00, and is a cost-effective
way of obtaining detailed lithologic, facies and diagenetic information.
