WESTERN CANADA SHALE GAS PRODUCTION
Overview

Unconventional plays such as Shale gas, represent an enormous untapped resource in the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin.

Shale gas reservoirs typically have the following characteristics: continuous-type gas saturation often stored in the sorbed state and are organic-rich and generally fine grained.  Their prospectivity depends on maturation level and the presence of an extensive fracture network for economic production rates.

"The source rock is typically the reservoir rock"

SCG has for sale a "Hydrocarbon Source Rock Study of the Duvernay Formation of Alberta" and a "Hydrocarbon Source Rock Study of the Exshaw Formation of West Central Alberta".  This assessment of distribution, maturation level and richness forms a first step in evaluating the prospectivity of these units for this unconventional resource.
