CORE WORKSHOP #1 - SLAVE POINT FM. - N.W. ALBERTA

Course Overview

This one day core workshop will be held at the AEUB Core Research Centre in N.W. Calgary.  It focuses specifically on the paleogeography, cycle and facies architecture of the Slave Point Formation of northwest Alberta.

Through a combination of lectures and core examination participants will be introduced to:

  • Depositional cycles and stacking patterns of the Slave Point Formation;
  • Facies models explaining the distribution of limestone reservoir quality in the shallow water Slave Point;
  • Nature, distribution and wireline log response of the deeper water, basin filling Slave Point;
  • Diagenetic variations, in particular dolomitization, and it's control on reservoir quality;
  • Review of major producing and potential play-types and models of hydrocarbon plumbing and charge.
The workshop will feature cored suites from Cranberry, Ladyfern (Alberta side), North Chinchaga, Hamburg, regional cores of the embayment fill and enclosing units, and Ladyfern N.E. B.C. (poster exhibit).

The workshop will be conducted by Frank Stoakes and members of SCG staff.
