Course
Overview
This
one day core workshop will be held at the AEUB Core Research Centre in
N.W. Calgary. It focuses specifically on the paleogeography, cycle
and facies architecture of the Swan Hills Formation of western Alberta.

Through
a combination of lectures and core examination participants will be introduced
to:

Depositional
cycles and stacking patterns of the Swan Hills Formation;

Facies
models of each of the component cycles explaining the distribution of original
limestone reservoir quality;
-
Criteria
for interpreting regional exposure surfaces (R4 - ISHU)
-
The nature,
distribution and wireline log response of the various units of the Swan
Hills - Beaverhill Lake basin-fill will be illustrated on a series of cross
sections;

Diagenesis,
in particular dolomitization, and it's control on reservoir quality and
play-type compartmentalization;

Review
of major producing and potential play-types and models of hydrocarbon plumbing
and charge.
The workshop
will feature cored suites from the Caroline BHL 'A' & 'B' pools, Hanlan
'A' & 'B' pools, Blackstone, Rosevear 'A' & 'B' pools, and regional
cores from House Mountain, Judy Creek, Simonette BHL and the Beaverhill
Lake basin-fill.
The
workshop will be conducted by Frank Stoakes and members of SCG staff.
